Ampersand design for the 'Coming Together' collaborative typeface as part of Font Aid IV. Project by SOTA to raise funds for Haiti earthquake victims. Typeface available from MyFonts and all proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders.
Abrupt

Sketch on canvas using the edge and side to illustrate the meaning of the word. Part of a series of experiments on words that aren't onomatopoeia, but really do sound like what they mean. Drawing later finished with oil paints.
Vowels
December 2007
Part of a hand drawn composition looking at the importance of vowels. The design was accompanied by quotation from which I had removed all vowels; "The word vowel comes from the Latin word 'vocalis' meaning 'uttering voice' or 'speaking' because in most Latin base languages, words, and therefore speech, are not possible without vowels." The typographic visuals therefore not only relate to the content, but direclty prove it.

Hand drawn typography composition. The idea was to use the concrete poetry concepts of repetition & space/arrangement to play with the meaning of the word. One particular concrete poetry fundamental I was trying to communicate was a design in which "...the spatial element is essential, not merely something additional."
